errr.. what most people don't know because they haven't been smoking long enough is that there's Kools and Kool Milds. before they changed the packaging years ago, the box made the statement. a few years after changing to the green and blue packs, they stopped printing 'milds' on the blues. i still miss the old white packs with the gorgeous picture of an oasis in the middle.

but in case you couldn't figure it out:

greens = regular.
blues = milds.

So a few weeks ago I remember tearing the filter of a Frost in half and discovering a small round blue peice of plastic embedded in the filter fibers. I thought it was strange... actually... it was a strange Truman show kind of a moment for me. As a kid I always thought my life was secretely under surveillance or something so I instantly thought: tracking device... strange innit?

Anyway, I'm not much of a smoker but these youth-targeted brands caught my eye so I gave it a try... and forgot about it until today. I did some research. Apparently I'm not the only one to have discovered these round blue balls. Someone contacted RJ Reynolds about it... here's what they said.

e-mail to R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

Hi Justin,

Since you have confirmed that you are a legal-age consumer of tobacco products,
we are glad to answer your question.

One of the flavors used to create the unique smoking experience of Camel
Signature Frost is so delicate or aromatic that it would be lost or destroyed
if placed on the tobacco. To protect the flavor, it is bound in a small flavor
pellet and placed in the filter.

Other than adding flavor, the pellet doesn't affect the smoke delivery.
Pellets are placed in the filters in a way to assure they don't move, fall out
or be drawn out during smoking.

We appreciate your taking the time to contact us and hope this information is
helpful.

Yet... I say their response is bullshit. One guy took the pellet out and said the ciggarette tastes exactly the same. Another guys confirms chewing up the plastic and tasting nothing whatsoever. I admit.. I also tried chewing it and felt nothing... Yet another guy claims that not every single Frost ciggarette contains this plastic, which further refutes the flavor argument that RJ proposed...

Weird, huh?

What did you do to your cigarettes? The last two cartons I have bought feel like there is less tobacco or not packed like they used to be or something. They go out on their own, the "cherry" falls off - twice I have had them drop on my pants in the car. I am afraid to smoke in the car anymore. I have been smoking these cigarettes for YEARS. Something is different and this is one consumer that is not happy about it.
